Delete your Kinly account
You can do this from Settings inside the app, which is immediate. If you no longer have Kinly installed, use the form below and it will be done for you.
If you still have the app
Open Settings, then Delete account. It happens straight away and you do not need to wait for anyone. Everything described below applies in exactly the same way.
What deletion does
Deletion is permanent. It is not a deactivation, there is no grace period, and it cannot be undone. If you sign up again later it will be a new account with an empty Circle.
Deleted
- Your account, sign-in, name, photo and phone number
- Every Circle membership — yours, and the ones you belong to
- Any unused invite codes you created
- Every location point ever recorded for you
- Your devices’ notification tokens
- Your Sign in with Apple token, revoked with Apple and then deleted
Kept
- The alerts themselves — they are also the record of everyone who was told and everyone who answered
- The fact that you responded to someone’s alert, though any note you wrote is removed
- Your name replaced with “Deleted user” wherever it appeared in those records
Alerts are not deleted because destroying them would rewrite other people’s record of a night that happened to them too. Nothing identifying you survives in them.
The full detail is in section 9 of the privacy policy.
Request deletion
Give the email address on the account. You will be sent a confirmation email before anything is deleted — without that step, anyone who knew your address could delete your account.
If you do not want to delete everything
A few things people mean when they come to this page:
- You want to leave somebody’s Circle. You can do that from the Circle tab without deleting anything. You do not need their permission, and they are not asked to approve it.
- You do not want to share your location. Withdraw the location permission in your phone’s settings. Kinly keeps working; your alerts simply go out without a location.
- You want the notifications to stop. Turn them off for Kinly in your phone’s settings — though if you are in someone’s Circle, that means you will not hear if they need help.
